Come Fly with Me …
Couriers of the gods, picking up and delivering packages around our nature, settling down or waking up, and sometimes being sidetracked from their path in spider webs and swatters of other kinds.
They love a good flower as much as the next, a natural appreciation for food, who would guess, an integral part of the complex we are in the existential order.
And of course, there must be truth to the fact, droplets of intelligence, wondrous creations, magnificent life.
Jewelled droplets in the eye of this beholder.
Not a sufferer in sight …

Yes, this is how a fly-macro should look!
Thanks Ullis … they look that way regardless … :-)
Always the highlight of my email. Thank you! You do beautiful work. I love sharing them with my grandsons. Great teachable moments.
Thanks Audrey. Yes, kids need to get out in nature, somehow, to get a taste for the real value of it – in the body and out of mind.
lovely shot as alway Mark.. feel wonderful to see them..
Cheers Michael …
spectacular photography!!! I am so amazed how they look close up :-)
WOW stunning macro photography, your detail is incredible, you really are inspirational. I love how the post is about the fly and then you added the most gorgeous image of the spider “Who me” at the end…brilliant! What a face made me laugh outloud.
Yes, I thought the spider had a place, to illustrate a little humour in a serious life … :)
fantastic photos! i imagine you are very patient … awesome!
Thanks D. Just less impatient …
Great pictures Mark i love the colours.
Good Godfried … :)
Lovely, thank you.
Thanks MJ.
Brilliant photos, how do you get them to stay still?
It comes down to the time of day or whether their attention is occupied. They don’t usually fly at night or when it is cold in the morning, and if they are eating or not entirely present it is fairly easy to approach them, gently. Any jarring vibration or noise will often set them going though, even in the dark of night. My approach is outlined here : https://beingmark.com/macro-illustrated/
Oh wow thanks for the link pics and info great even greater challenge for my point and shoot which has a macro setting so watch this space :)
No problem 123 …
I love the last one! :D
Wide eyed innocence … :)
I especially loved # 1 and 2, but they are all great! I also loved ”couriers of the gods”, there’s truth in that! :)
If the gods are in and behind all things then it is so … :)
These are amazing!! :D
I’ve never seen a fly like this – so mesmerized!!
Awesome shots!
The fly’s world is an amazing place indeed …
I get some really pretty iridescent flys in my garden so I’m pleased that you’ve celebrated our common little friends here :) They do their part in the garden as well as other insects – I often find them in flowers.
Yes, they like the flowers as much as any creature. No doubt they do their job/s well.
Awesome pics! :)
… trust the kids like ’em too … :)
Will show them when they get home from school ;) My boy especially is into bugs! ;)
Good, don’t forget to click on pix for him to see bigger versions …
WOW! super cool… we look at all the pics upclose. Wil wanted to know if flys do poo! We did find a pic that seems to show ‘fly poo’ ;) amazed at the ‘fur and hair’ on bugs… seriously amazing!
Ha! That sounds like the young fellow. Yes, they do poo. See those two dark spots/droplets below the red eye on third picture down, before I took that one the fly was facing the other direction … I suppose the colour is determined by what they eat, like us, must have been eating dark stuff. :)
