To Laugh About …
With the rain and cold of this winter came the Kookaburra family to the garden, the male and female. Mates alone, with the young from last season gone to find their own place to live and die.
I suspect a shortage of food around these parts, suburbia, where people keep tidy gardens. It seems to be a rule of mind, with the occasional refreshing wildness.
These birds know where their bread is buttered, a plethora of small lizards to be found scuttling around my garden, plucked mid-stride. Gulped.
Every now and then a sudden raucous noise hits my ears, the distinctive ‘ HA HA HA, HO HO HO, HAHAHA’. Well, something like that.
They remind me of the practicality and diversity of nature, and to laugh – while they scan the ground for a morsel.
A proper laugh strategically applied can change the pattern or weight of a mind.
Does mind have weight, or is it the gravity of the past that tugs?

Great photos. It is winter where you live?
Thanks Alex. Yes it is in Brisbane, Oz. A wonderful time of year when the weather is mostly comfortably cool, for me.
Beautiful bird and pictures are awesome!
Yes, thanks Alexander …
Good question!
Hi Karen …
“A proper laugh strategically applied can change the pattern or weight of a mind.”
This technique could work – if done when no one is looking. Otherwise, you may be considered somewhat imbalanced. :)
It does work, laugh when the weight of the past is upon you and you will see the difference. You need to know though, the unreality of the past laden mind, to enable its dissolution.
You can laugh inside, or dare to care less what others may think – and risk the insanity of judgment.
It is everyone else who is mad, not me … :-) Ha Ha Ha, HoHoHo ….
“You can laugh inside, or dare to care less what others may think.” …frankly, I prefer to “Care less what others may think.” It’s so much more freeing.
Besides, anyone who thinks I am imbalanced obviously has not taken the time to know me at all, and thus their opinion is weightless.
Loved this post! Thanks, Mark!
Thanks Deborah. Opinion only has the weight it is given.
one of my favorite birds : ))
They are unafraid too, siting until I am within touching distance.
Nice look!
Thanks Bente …
Loved your Kookaburra portraits. Their humorous call is brought to my (weightless) mind as signals scramble through my weighty brain. I once lived in Melbourne and in Perth and would live in lovely Australia now were it not for my homing instinct for my birth country, Canada. Really appreciate your contemplative blog and spectacular macro shots.
Thanks Florence …
