Gardening …

… in the mind too.

Spring time and all the forms of nature are on the rise. These flies, Doli for short, emerged around one particular plant and I got some shots in the early morning. Have tried getting some shots of the adults but they are flash sensitive and are gone on the pre-flash. It’s rare they stay for a shot.

Occasionally it occurs to me how I started doing macro. After I got a camera and was spending time in nature it became obvious my attraction was to the small creatures at my feet rather than big creatures over there or broad landscapes.

The nearer the better it seems soon took my energies and it was 2 or 3 years of application before I was really any good. It was a process of elimination, of what didn’t work, to reveal what works.

Someone started me on it, photography. I don’t remember exactly how but do remember C had some influence. He was a friend in his way. I say ‘his’ way since he was a friend and then one day he just stopped communicating.

Don’t know what happened but I am grateful for the small things. From seed big trees grow, and die.

All the best C old friend, wherever thee may be.

Gardening is very special. I miss my garden when I am away from it and all the creatures that share it with me. It teaches me a lot. Just like your Macros. I was only interested in your photography at first now I know there is more. Amelia

Yes, it is as close to truth ‘out here’ we can get, apart from the space it happens in. There is more, and less …

    Your spring, our autumn :(

Indeed, autumn is great time too …

Great shots, my favourite photos are macros too but I haven’t taken any for ages.

Thanks Sue. I am surely slowing down but don’t think I could stop for any length of time, unless forced …

Stunning – just stunning! Seriously, these shots take my breath away and give me a genuine moment of remembering wow, life/god/nature/the universe gave all its/his/her artistic attention to every living creature, however large or small, and they are therefore all equally important to the well being of all life. Thank you. Harula xxx

Thanks Harula. Yes, nothing is overlooked by ‘it’. The genius of a fly made …

You did well to capture these beautiful images before they flew away (with the flash) then.
C might have been ill. You didn’t try to find out?

    • Mark said, on 17/10/2014 at 5:42 pm

Thanks Lissa. Yes, did try, no matter now. All is for the best in the end, because it serves in the negation of self. Life is like that … and that is necessary. :-)

it’s funny how people ebb and flow and affect our lives. C’s role was surely to nudge you in the direction you went, and wow, you have definitely mastered the art of the macro!

    • Mark said, on 17/10/2014 at 2:43 pm

That’s the fact Z, C was. Mastery, not one of my favourite words, implies an end to endeavour where I see none.

OH. MY. GOSH! May I ask how powerful is your macro because I am just about falling off my chair looking at this most unbelievable photo I think I have ever seen. I have no words. My mouth is hanging wide open. (((HUGS))) Amy

I don’t know, about +3 magnification – equivalent. There’s lots of good macro about.

      Cheers Amy.

      • LadyPinkRose said, on 18/10/2014 at 12:36 am

I have a good macro. But I know it is not powerful enough to get a shot like this. A +3 magnification …. hmmm…. thank you! Love, Amy

        • Mark said, on 18/10/2014 at 8:01 am

I meant 3x, not +3. The + usually refers to dioptre strength and what that is on will determine magnification. Dipotres I use are achromats, small filter lenses that attach to camera lens.
