The Invitation …
Everything, by it’s presence, is an invitation. To what, then, is the question. That depends on its intent and your predisposition.
In this case intent is inoffensive. So, to capture an image of a resting Potter Wasp.
Or its significance is something unseen.

Nature is always opening doors, inviting curiosity and exploration, the greatest teacher.
With nature a reflection of self the student becomes also the teacher, a some-times precarious balance.
The shape of the wasp is fascinating. It’s abdomen doesn’t seem to belong with its thorax. Not many creatures have such a stark waist.
Yes, it is. And the yellow patching with such big black eyes and long ears/antennae. On the second picture you can see a kind of paddle shape coming off its lower foot, apparently that’s the means of an orchid reproducing. Can’t find the specific reference now but this tells the story – http://www.australiangeographic.com.au/topics/science-environment/2014/09/deceptive-orchids-luring-wasps-for-pollination/ Invitation = attraction, is how the world turns.
Wonderful!
Was a magnificent moon in a clear sky last night. And bright and sunny this morning. An invitation …
This beautifully captures the extreme attenuation of the wasp’s midsection, which previously I had appreciated only in a vague manner. Thanks for making it so much clearer!
Indeed it does. No problem … :-)
Another beautifully defined shot. Looking at this one makes you realize why people say someone has a “wasp like waist”.
Thanks Mac … ‘Even’ insects serve to reflect back to us.
Great capturesome!
Thanks Liz. That’s a new word …
Argh!!! I was working from my tablet and didn’t catch it! An old fashioned keyboard is so much easier!!! I was photographing insects today too, Mark. My equipment doesn’t give nearly the resolution as yours, but I like the way my dragonfly photo turned out. There was a tiny green frog right at dusk hopping through the grass, but I never managed to get a clear shot. This is a wonderful time of year up here in the north to photograph wildlife. I’m glad you are finding some interesting beings now, too. Best wishes, WG
It’s out there now, no getting it back.
Saw your Damsel … Yes, summer time in the north, I remember it.
The weather here is lovely and warmer for this time of year, apparently it’s heating up around the world now, undeniably so.
Best … M
Undeniably, as much as someones keep manipulating it. So hot here this summer, we are breaking records every week. And storms! Best wishes, WG
Have always been afraid of the wasp. Now I know why.
Great shots as usual.
Shine On
Caution around social insects is prudent as they can be very aggressive in defence of the hive, especially if disturbed – like the Paper Wasp https://onbeingmark.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/p1190910_filtered.jpg
But solitary creatures like the wasps pictured are usually docile and can be handled in the right conditions, I prefer not to disturb them.
Thanks …
