And Then There Were …
The Botany Bay Weevil didn’t notice Xmas coming and going. It was all just time passing, the sun rose and set and in between they did what they do.
Feeding, flying, f…… and posing for photos when the cameraman comes along. Can’t keep a good weevil down. But no, no personality involved at all, of the Weevils.
To capture two together is a rare event, signifying … only that they do …
That’s the fact.

I love that you caught him (her?) with a full mouth (maw?).
:)
The big one is her for sure, and I think that’s moss growing on the end of its snout – because I’ve seen similar on so many. They must live a long time to get so big, over an inch long, and maybe their diet takes them to where moss grows. I Think … :-)
Such exquisite pictures, as always. And to capture two indeed … And you are so polite, really very polite … It makes me smile, Mark. Thank you for this Christmas present to us, your fans. Can’t wait to see what present we get to start the New Year … or not, as you and nature are moved.
Thanks Susan. I think I was just avoiding censorship/exclusion so the kids can still look. :-)
Who knows what’s around the bend …
Fantastic insects and photos.
Thanks David.
Boy and girl. Mr and Mrs. :) I imagine a tiny weevil marriage ceremony before they get down to the business of creating the next generation.
Just M and F doing what nature or instinct impels, I don’t imagine anything else. :-)
Oh Mark, these are so completely great! I am such a fan of yours. I so wish I was down under so I could meet with you and your macro group. Would you be so kind as to tell me what lens you use for these shots? I love the personality you give them, and the clarity and the large depth of field.
In awe,
Mary
Thanks Mary. You are welcome any time. :-)
At present, and for a few months, I’ve been using the Olympus 60/f2.8 macro lens (with a +8 achromat attached) on the Panasonic G6 body. See 1/5th the way down this page for the latest pictures of my setup – https://beingmark.com/macro-illustrated/ – it’s the lighting that matters most, as in all things or communications.
Your captures and prose always insightful of the truth; and helpful, where l can give up a little more of the treadmill of worldly living…
The treadmill is only what the mind makes of the fact, thinking about … :-)
Thanks Karen.
Their “noses” always make me think their designer was having a laugh at their expense.
There are far stranger things … Lucky they aren’t self conscious.
