Rainbow’s End

Earlier in the year I discovered a colony of Rainbow Bee Eaters nesting on the bank of a tidal creek nearby, Eprapah creek.

It’s an untidy and not very welcoming spot, frequented by not too many fishers by day and party-makers and drinkers by night.

I aim for somewhere in between them but it doesn’t always work out that way, gotta share the space sometimes and see some strange things.

But the point is there were all these Rainbow Bee Eaters all of a sudden in spring to early summer, and then just as suddenly they were gone.

They were only there to nest and raise their young and then took them off into the wider mangrove forest to learn the ways of being a Rainbow bird.

They shared the space a while …

How nice that you were able to see and photograph them. Beautiful birds (and very cute in their posture :-)

There weren’t many options of perches to shoot them on. Cheeky/proud looking things too.

For fine tuning their aerobatics no doubt.

Your photographs let us see up close the extraordinary colors of birds, and also amphibians and of course…..insects. They are so much more complex then when we see them from a distance. Hope you keep sending out your pictures.

Thanks A … It is amazing we have these little devices to get so close to the small things we otherwise wouldn’t appreciate much. Will do …
