Careful what you give your attention, your life, to.

It takes a long time for the bud to form and mature.

Then the flowering can begin …

Everything flowers.

Hi again, Mark–two questions, if you please. I saw one of the green insects featured in your first shot in New Zealand earlier this year. Can you tell me what it is? Surely that proboscis is for sucking plant juices. Second, did you use focus stacking in your last image to achieve this depth of field? Wonderful stuff.

  Hi Gary. It’s a kind of Shield Bug, sucks plant and other ‘animal’ juices with that proboscis. No stacking necessary, it’s a big flower and f16 was enough for what you see.

A beautiful, wise commentary, Mark, and the usual terrific images,with exceptionally vibrant colors. I especially like the way the little black and yellow insect recapitulates the big yellow bud — or the other way around. :)
