Spider Green

It’s been a while since I found this little dancing jumping spider. Entertaining to watch as she moves around the foliage, staccato gait.

No doubt there are still some in the garden but the summer heat has driven them into the shadows, for some relief.

Not so easily found right now. But summer is almost over and with a little rain comes the forms of life.

Time to wake up from the lazy heat, kick start the old ticker, and see what may be.

    These pics are so mesmerizing… I don’t like spiders, but these creatures carry a certain beauty that no other animal has.

      Of all the spiders these jumping ones are regarded as the cute ones. They dance for a partner, jump great (to them) distances for prey, and are curious when the lens gets close so they often jump onto it and wander about the camera. And they have a ‘innocent’ face. But really, many creatures have similar attributes, or at least their ‘innocence’ can be seen when we look without prejudice. Because ‘innocence’ is a quality apparent in the absence of thinking and emotion.

    Great pictures! She looks as if she is feeling quite comfortable on your finger :-) Very brave that little thing. I never saw such a colourful spider! Thank you Mark for sharing!

    Such an amazing little creature and you captured the facial expressions. It’s cool how they can hide their pinchers and make their face the thing to notice and the unsuspecting bugs get eaten from beneath.I love these pics! I love all your pics.     I realize it’s folly to canineomorphize a spider, but this one’s face reminds me of my dog in particularly charming moments.

      They are charming, why not … but they didn’t learn it from us. Maybe it’s a display thing, he and she putting their best foot forward to each other, being able to tell the difference. Nature is a magnificent intelligent after all, if somewhat fixed in form.

      Thanks David. One handed but with an achromat on the lens the working distance allows to rest lens tip on same hand you see, so not entirely …
