What kind of bug is that? I don’t think I’ve ever seen it before.

That’s an assassin bug. It has a long proboscis tucked under along its body that it uses to stab its prey and suck the life out of it.

Oh! Thanks for telling me. I have heard of them before.

They seem to be common enough around the world, various kinds. Check these …

What a fearsome visage! This one could return in a nightmare.

    • Mark said, on 28/04/2020 at 10:37 am

If one was another kind of creature small enough to become its prey, maybe.

      Do insects have nightmares?

For their sake, I hope not, as they are a pretty low link on the overall food chain.

also what kind of macro lense are you using? thanks Mark amazing work

    • Mark said, on 28/04/2020 at 10:35 am

Basically the Oly 60 macro with achromat on it (DCR 150 mostly). I have various achromats and use them in various combinations with various lenses, at times.

beautiful shots mark, may i ask what camera setup you use?
and is this the same assassin from the assassin bug family ( kissing bug ) ?

    • Mark said, on 28/04/2020 at 10:33 am

Thanks Lee. Yes, it’s some kind of assassin bug.

For setup search ‘velcro’ on this page – https://beingmark.com/macro-illustrated/ – will take you to images and some explanation of what I use. The whole page is my take on macro, not a lot of techs.
