Nature's Place

Beez …

in the bush.

From the morning glory days, a male I think. Relishing a dose of nectar at the mouth of the mind altering flower.

He took his time enjoying the liquid pleasure. A rare enough visitor, we being surrounded by desert dry gardens.

And more recently, a female I think. Taking a break from collecting pollen for the nest, there’s more to life than young.

And another break, or another bee, on my dry hand. Preening time, best to last a little longer in a wearing world.

Making the most of one native flower in the garden. It’s almost summer conditions here now, not yet though.

Another flower from the local bush, seeds collected and sown for the garden to give life to. She seems to enjoy it.

And all is well … naturally.

Hi Mark. The first picture there sure has weird mouth parts…do you know if the are relating to specific flowers?

Hi Graham. As far as I know that is just what these bees ‘mouths’ look like and are good for many kinds of flowers. Other bees, like the blue banded bee – https://beingmark.com/2013/02/08/our-beautiful-blue-banded-bee/ – have a proboscis that enables them to sup at some distance so is best for some flowers over others, it can also be used to penetrate a flower from the side which the others can’t do.

Or scroll down this – https://beingmark.com/?s=bee

No problem. I’m sure much has been written about it all, more than I’ll ever know.

Great shots as always :-) I think your first bee might be “bubbling”. Essentially, they regurgitate some nectar and allow some of the water content to evaporate, which increases its concentration and allows them to collect more. At least, that’s how I understand it.

      Thanks Teale.

I’m sure you’re right, but … He may simply be absorbed in the sense of things, passing through the other …

      Thanks Helen.

Yes, it is easy to overlook this small alien world. Not enough entertainment value when there’s only a snapshot available, and not easy to identify with.
